Hoće li Red Bull Racing Team dospjeti među najbolje u Formuli 1 u 2007? Novi član tima Mark Webber vjeruje da hoće. U prvom dijelu intervjua priča o raspoloženju u timu, novom RB3 bolidu i svojim ciljevima za novu sezonu.
How does it feel to be a part of the Red Bull Racing Team – and in which respect does racing for Red Bull differ from driving in your prior teams? It feels like being a part of the future of Formula One. Ever since their debut in F1, Red Bull Racing has provided the sport with a much-needed breath of fresh air and reminded everyone that, essentially, it is still a sport and therefore can be enjoyed. But Red Bull Racing also goes about its business very seriously and very professionally and in that sense, there’s little difference between the team and the others I’ve raced for in the past.
Does being on a team mean you sit together with David Coulthard drinking beer (or a few cans of Red Bull) and chatting after training – or are team mates usually the main competitors?
You always want to beat your team-mate because he’s the only guy out there with exactly the same equipment as you! I’ve worked with David on the GPDA and I’d like to think we will continue to maintain a strong professional relationship. Ironically, the team-mate I got on the best with is the driver I’m replacing at Red Bull Racing, Christian Klien!
What do you think about the new RB3? Will it really be as exciting and powerful as rumour has it?
Obviously there’s a lot of excitement within the whole team, including the drivers, about the RB3. There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic; we’ve been able to secure a very good engine in the Renault; Adrian Newey is in charge of aerodynamics, Rod Marshall is responsible for the mechanical side of things, and Mark Smith for reliability. It’s a very good package.
A british F1-mag voted you 43rd of the fastest drivers of all times – as only one of four active. What does this mean to you? Do you think that you can still improve?
It was flattering to be included but I’d much prefer to be listed among the list of the most successful drivers! I’m absolutely certain that Formula One hasn’t seen the best of Mark Webber yet and so yes, there’s definitely more to come. Providing we have the car to take the battle to the front, I’m sure we can be challenging for podiums and maybe even a win in 2007.
